Policy Briefs
D5 Policy Brief – Introducing BIGPROD
The main aim of the BIGPROD project is to arrive at a better explanation of the inconsistent and conflicting interactions of technological and market processes currently observed in the global economy. By utilizing new “Big” data sources and processes, which will result in new metrics and economic indicators, BIGPROD aims to provide input to improve on the existing econometric models used for productivity analysis.
D14 Can web scraped data inform innovation policy?
While there has been increased interest on the utilization of big data and data analytics in public policymaking, policy analytics has not been widely adopted. This has been the result of a mismatch with expectations and capabilities. This policy brief reports reflect on the findings of a 2.5 year project gathering micro-level data from approximately 96 000 companies using web scraping. The report highlights challenges and offers recommendations based on the learnings from the project.
D30 Dissemination of workshop results, scientific paper and policy brief
BIGPROD project has actively disseminating all outcomes from the project. The strategy has been to openly share as much of the work products and underlying data as possible. The main avenues of disseminating the data have been the project website, a Dataverse repository and a ResearchGate project page set up for the project. By using these three sites to disseminate the outcomes, the project has created a persistent repository of the project results.
D31 Policy brief aiming to introduce project objectives and spark discussions
This Policy Brief is designed to introduce project objectives and spark discussions with stakeholders. The project covers the econometric model used, data collection and its implementation as well as the co-creative aspects of the project.
D32 Data Analytics in Policy-Making An Agenda for Research
This policy brief introduces the objectives of BIGPROD project and strives to spark a discussion by highlighting the preliminary achievements and ongoing actions in the project.

D15 1st consultation with (EC) experts on “Big data” and Policy Making
The first consultation with (EC) experts was designed to evaluate and scope the BIGPROD workflow and possible adjustments the consortium could do to better respond to policy needs.
D16 1st consultation with Statistical Experts on “Big data” and Policy Making
The first consultation with statistical experts was designed to evaluate and scope the BIGPROD workflow and possible adjustments the consortium could do to better respond to policy needs
D22 3rd consultation with experts (data science focus) on Interim Report “Platform Operation” D3.3
The third consultation with statistical experts was designed to evaluate and scope the BIGPROD deliverable 3.3 on the Platform operation and the proposal for BIGPROD projects focus.
D26 4th consultation with experts on Big data and Policy Making

Workshops
D25 Interactive learning workshop
This deliverable reports on the interactive learning workshop directed to policy practitioners. The objective of the session was to engage stakeholders to mitigate skills gap, create transparency, and to enable policymakers being informed of the tools and pilots created by the project. The deliverable includes a Jupyter Notebook and a workshop recording shared publicly.
This deliverable reports on the validation workshop. The objective of the session was to engage scholars to validate the work carried out to extend the CDM model with web-scraped data. The session focused on discussing two deliverables. The first deliverable discussed focused on the updated literature review, on estimations from the econometric model, and on discussing the policy implications, while the second focused particularly on the productivity effects of digitalisation while introducing a novel distinction between process vs. product digitalisation. This deliverable summarises the experts’ comments and includes the material presented.
